Age 20 - Miss Y

by - 1:22 PM

I love the concept of Miss Y. I am the Y generation. The ninja generation. The age of instant information Why this? Why That?

Things Remembered:
20 is an awkward age, too young to be take seriously or really know what you want out of life. Too old to be a dumb teenager and depend on mommy and daddy for everything. My mom raised me and my sister with an Iron fist. You were to get a job and start planning for the future. No handouts, everything MUST be earned. However 20 is weird. You start to realize the Major you picked was a LITTLE stupid...boring or nothing like you thought it would be. You realize gas is expensive, books are expensive and all those little things our parents provided are...expensive. You have a job that's extremely lame. Like, being a pizza delivery driver! Yes, I was a driver. My car would over heat, my cars nick-name at work was "the bucket." Juggling responsibilities and working hard for a small check is hard. I just felt like a complete loser. I didn't have fun times and do wild things, I just worked and studied. This year was a pretty lame, bitter time in life.

You also have freedom. However, dating Graham was very hard. Worth it, but hard. We were raised differently, he was 5 years older than me and I swear I had dated 15 year olds with more freedom. It's extremely difficult to date someone who's family has different, cultural and moral standards than you. The first year of dating Graham was hell. Not because of him, but because of the people around us. It was a lot of eye rolling, eye rolling and more eye rolling.

It was then I discovered that there is a MAJOR difference between loyalty and submission.

I didn't like being 20, you start growing independence and yet, I always felt like I was still treated like a child. So it was at THAT point I made a conscious decision to do what ever I could to snag a great job, earn respect and have the ability to say:

That was my goal. To work and work and work...no play. I will rest once I have a leg to stand!

Life Lessons:
Short term pain for long term gain.

What I Wish I Knew Then:
Guess what kids that "lame job" will lead to building blocks of opportunities! All those people that laughed at you, your car and your job are STILL working their same LAME job and living in some Podunk side of town. People can't and wont see you for what you can be! Ignore it, do it anyway, stay HUMBLE and PROVE...THEM...WRONG!

Marina Song:
I Chose: Miss Y - By Marina and the Diamonds

Why? Lyrics are perfect. "I walked all night long in the dark (delivering pizzas) only to feel like nobody...Why am I here?" Thats always how I felt! But, I had no idea that I was headed for something great. (:

I feel like a substitute sittin' on the sideline,
Clicking every single finger waiting for the right time,
I feel like a substitute sitting pretty in my prime,
I'm about to play the game 'cause I'm running out of time

Drop your knees to the floor,
Hands to the sky,
Give a round of applause for the great Miss Y
I walked all night long in the dark just to be standing here

Only to feel like nobody and Miss Y am I here?
I walked all night long in the dark just to be standing here
Only to feel like nobody and Miss Y am I here?
and the lights, they get stronger the longer that you have to wait,
for the honor, the honor, to be great.

Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh,
Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh,
Oh-oh oh, oh.

I feel like I'm stuck inside a race, feel like I'm catching up,
Oh, Marina what a shame you didn't make the upper cut!
Feel like I'm stuck inside a race, feel like I'm catching up,
Oh Marina, we're so sorry, but you didn't make the cut.

Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh,
Whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh,
Oh-oh oh, oh...
