Dear Dad, The Stars Are Free

by - 10:17 PM

I took my dad out for his fathers day dinner. He seemed a little uneasy. He looked at me as if he was bearing some burden weighing on his shoulder. I questioned his demeanor and he smiled smugly. We shared laughs and he conveyed his overwhelming joy of being with me and how proud he is to call me his daughter.

Later that afternoon he confessed that he had a horrible dream that I was little again. But, that I had been kidnapped. I asked him what he thought it meant to him....

He said, I look at you now and you are a woman. I wish I would have spent more time with you as a little girl. My eyes slowly started to become misty. I then questioned, what was your goal as my father? He said, to be good enough. He said, too make sure you would never be poor...

I told him Dad, all I've ever needed was your love. A hug. A smile. Encouragement.

Then it struck me that, my father did the best he could with all he knew. His way of showing us love was by providing financial comfort...thats all he knew.

Now, after his his accident our relationship has blossomed into a dynamic that I never thought fathomable. He is the wises, kindest and most revolutionary man that I could ever hope to meet. I hope to document all of his amazing ideals and the way he has always portrays his emotions through his art.

I have the best Father TIME can buy. Because TIME is the most valuable thing in the world to me....

"Buy The Stars" by Marina and the Diamonds has always reminded me of my dad. A man who spent his whole life buying stars...but now he see's. Now he sees the stars are FREE....

You bought a star in the sky tonight
Because your life is dark and it needs some light
You named it after me, but I’m not yours to keep
Because you’ll never see, that the stars are free

Oh we don’t own our heavens now
We only own our hell
And if you don’t know that by now
Then you don’t know me that well

All my life I’ve been so lonely
All in the name of being holy
Still, you’d like to think you know me
You keep buyin’ stars
And you could buy up all of the stars,
But it wouldn’t change who you are
You’re still living life in the dark
It’s just who you are
It’s just who you are

You bought a star in the sky tonight
And in your man-made dark
The light inside you died

Oh we don’t own our heavens now
We only own our hell
And if you don’t know that by now
Then you don’t know me that well

All my life I’ve been so lonely
All in the name of being holy
Still, you’d like to think you own me
You keep buyin’ stars
And you could buy up all of the stars,
But it wouldn’t change who you are
You’re still living life in the dark
It’s just who you are
It’s just who you are

You know only how to own me
You know only how to own me

You’re buying stars to shut out the light
We come alone and alone we die
And no matter how hard you try
I’ll always belong in the sky

And you could buy up all of the stars,
But it wouldn’t change who you are.
You’re still living life in the dark
It’s just who you are
It’s just who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
It’s who you are
